Melana favours finite gemstone parcels, established supplier relationships and reclaimed materials where possible.
Exact materials and construction are listed within each product description. When a material parcel ends, a design may retire, evolve or return in another form.

From origin to wear, every jewel gathers a living story over time.
Fine marks, softened surfaces and natural patina may become part of its character. Thoughtful handling, repair and renewal allow its journey to continue.
THE METALS
Materials with Meaning
Sterling silver may naturally tarnish or deepen over time. This is a normal surface reaction and can usually be refreshed with a suitable silver polishing cloth.
Melana gold vermeil carries approximately 2–2.5 microns of gold over sterling silver, creating a thicker and generally longer-wearing finish than standard gold plating.
Keep it dry and protect it from perfume, chemicals and repeated friction.
Gold-filled jewellery carries a substantial layer of gold bonded to an alloy core.
It is more durable than standard gold plating but should still be protected from moisture, chemicals and abrasion.
Selected pieces are made in 9k or 14k solid gold. Fine marks and natural patina may develop through wear, but the gold itself will not wear away like a plated finish.

Stones, Diamonds & Pearls
Melana works with natural gemstones, organic pearls and lab-grown diamonds unless otherwise specified.
Each stone and pearl is individually hand-selected for its colour, texture, formation and character. Natural variations are part of its individuality and are not considered faults.
Pearls, turquoise and opals require gentle handling. Keep them away from water, perfume, cosmetics, chemicals and prolonged sunlight, then wipe softly after wear.
Diamond details, grading and certification are listed within each product description where applicable.

By Construction
Roll gently over the hand rather than stretching wide to preserve the life of these pieces.
Avoid twisting, folding, pulling or crushing. Lay long and flat in storage.
Fasten before storing and keep flat or hanging separately.
Put pearls on last and remove them first. Wipe pearls, turquoise and opals gently after wear and store separately from harder materials.
Even carefully worn jewellery may eventually require restringing, adjustment, refinishing or repair.

WORN OFTEN. KEPT WELL
Through Every Season
Avoid water, perfume, lotions, cosmetics and harsh chemicals.
Remove jewellery before sleeping, showering, swimming, exercising or physical work.
Wipe gently after wear and store each piece separately in its Melana pouch or keepsake packaging.
Avoid chemical dips and ultrasonic cleaners unless professionally approved for every material within the piece.
